About

The East Central and Southern Africa College of Health Sciences (ECSA-CHS) was established by the member states of the East Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC).The Health Ministers Conference noting gaps in Human Resources for Health, especially the limited number of specialists’ medical workers, resolved for additional training approach of health specialists to complement the university approach.

Trainings in various health fields are conducted by discipline-based professional colleges affiliated to ECSA-CHS. The ECSA-CHS oversees and coordinates the functioning of these semi-autonomous professional colleges.

The ECSA-CHS fellowship approach ensures training of the health specialists is localized in the ECSA-HC region. This leads to avoidance of high costs of training health specialists abroad, supplements the limited numbers churned through the university system, ensure trainees continue to provide services at their work places-usually district level hospitals, promote health worker retention hence improving access to quality specialists services outside capitals and major urban towns among others.

CANECSA

CANECSA is a college of anastesiologists of east , central and southern africa. constituent countries are democratic republic of congo (DRC), ethiopia, eswatini, kenya, malawi, rwanda, tanzania, uganda, zambia and zimbabwe. CANECSA aims to advance education, standards and research in safe anaesthesia and critical care fort the people of East, Central and Southern africa.

COSECSA

COSECSA is the largest Surgical Training Institution in Sub-Saharan Africa. We deliver a common Surgical Training programme with a Common Examination and an Internationally recognized Surgical Qualification. Admission to the College is open to all registered medical practitioners who comply with the professional requirements for Admission.

ECSACOG

The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ECSACOG), is a collegiate training institution with a mandate to train specialist obstetricians and gynecologists within the East, Central and Southern Africa. It incorporates the East, Central and Southern Africa association of Gynecological Societies. It is an affiliate College of the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Health Sciences.

ECSACONM

The East, Central, and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM) was established in 1990 as an executing arm of the then Commonwealth Regional Health Community Secretariat for East, Central and Southern Africa (CRHCS-ECSA) in the area of nursing and midwifery. The Arusha-based CRHC-ECSA secretariat, which is now referred to as the ECSA Health Community (ECSA HC), brings together 14 regional states.

ECSACO

ECSACO is a consortium that brings together Oncologists, other cancer specialists and stakeholders in cancer care across Sub-Saharan Africa to capacity building for best cancer care outcomes through standardized methodologies, protocols and education.

ECSACOP is responding to the variations in postgraduate training structure and content within the region. The College has developed a new internal medicine curriculum that encompasses the skills and characteristics physicians need to care for the health of their communities.

The College of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (COECSA) is a specialized virtual college. The aim of the College is to address the chronic shortage of human resource for eye health in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA), as well as improve the quality of eye care services in the region.
